Yes I know, it’s a strange question to ask someone isn’t it? We don’t think of our feet as having any value whatsoever, yet, when it comes to pursuing any dream of success, there are real steps that need to be taken in order to reach it.
In the World of Direct Sales / MLM, you can’t be a success unless you
a) Know where you’re going,
b) Have a reason for getting there, and
c) Understand the rules that govern your journey.
You might understand these points better if we call them Objective, Motivation, and Compliance. This article will give you a brief guide to understanding the value in each of your “steps”.
Objective
What could be the reasons you’ve decided to join a Direct selling- MLM company? Are you looking for material wealth? Are you looking to augment what you already have? Perhaps you’re just looking for something to revitalize your life with an exciting opportunity that can replace the draining one you’re currently in?
Whatever your reason, make sure your objective,
- Has Value: It’s hard to wake up in the morning day-after-day if your reasons aren’t important. Things that are important have value, and the more important your reasons are, the more valuable they are. Getting to a job interview on time is important, so you aren’t going to get in your car and head off without knowing where you’re going. The interview is important, and getting there on time is important; your objectives. You put planning into achieving them – you have the skills to do the job, you’re prepared for the questions you’ll be asked, you know the best route to reach your destination with time to spare. Working in the Direct Selling - MLM industry requires the same level of planning, and since it’s important for one area, it’s equally important for the other. It has value, your objectives have value.
- Is Attainable: As much as we dream about better things, a better lifestyle, etc.; most of us aren’t going to be discovered and star in the next feature blockbuster film or win the next big lottery. Having an objective in life that’s attainable, like being debt-free, buying a new car, taking a long-overdue vacation – those are objectives you’ll reach. The biggest difference between an attainable and un-attainable objective is, where you are in the process. Attainable objectives are within your control, meaning, you determine whether or not you’ll be successful at reaching them. Unattainable objectives rely on someone or something else determining whether you’ll reach them or not. In direct selling- MLM, you’re always in control of your objectives, so if you make sure they have value, and you know they’re things you can actually achieve, you’ll find your success is already almost accomplished.
Motivation
What are the things that motivate us? Hunger, rest, desire, reward – each of these things is unique to each of us. Motivation is what keeps us from slamming the snooze button through the floor each morning. It’s what pushes us that final few inches over the finish line when we didn’t think we could make it. Motivation is what puts action and motion into the steps we take every day to accomplish our objectives. Without motivation, you wouldn’t have any means to buy that new car, pay your bills – heck you wouldn’t have bills because you wouldn’t have been motivated to get a home, car, phone, computer, bus fare, etc. Motivation is our ability to go after the things that interest us, despite the obstacles that may stand in our way….including yourself. That’s right, you’re your own obstacle in many ways.
We talk ourselves out of doing the things we need to in order to accomplish the things we want on a daily basis. If you’re going to be successful in life, you need to realize, you need to stay motivated. Why did you set out on this journey to begin with? How important is it that you reach your objective? Success isn’t easy, it requires constant fortification because there will be many who reject what you’re doing, but every no is quickly forgotten the minute you hear “yes”. So stay motivated, and you’ll find you’re hearing more yes’s than no’s quicker than you thought.
Compliance
Probably one of the most controversial subjects in the Direct Selling- MLM industry is being Compliant. So what is compliance really? Well, we’ve all seen an ad, article, website or met someone with products to sell, or approached you in becoming a distributor of a direct selling- MLM company. Compliance is what governs the content in those ads, articles and websites, as well as dictates what those people you meet can and can not say regarding the products or opportunity they represent. Every country, and in some cases their individual states or provinces, have direct selling- MLM compliance guidelines every company doing business there must follow. These guidelines are there so people aren’t given false hopes and empty promises about the products and earning potential a company offers. These guidelines stipulate how a company can advertise, what they can’t say, and what proof they need to have in order to make the claims they are making. If a company or individual doesn’t adhere to these guidelines, fines, jail-time and even closing of the company resulting in a total loss can result. All that effort, any monies you may have earned, all gone.
If you’re going to get involved in the direct selling- MLM industry, you need to be aware of what they compliance regulations are applicable for your company in your country. Every successful business has rules it must follow or else it’s not in business very long, the same applies to the companies and distributors in the direct selling industry.
In the end, there’s no substitute for doing your homework and asking questions. You’re a business, so don’t be afraid to ask before you buy what a particular company is doing to stay compliant with regulations. Ask about training programs and support materials. Ask questions, because any company worth being in will answer them.
Looking back to where we started, how do you tell how much your feet are worth? That depends on how you treat them. Have you paved the road ahead through research, good planning, determination and compliance, or you’ve elected the rockier one full of pain, disappointment and resentment?
